The Lost River Retreat Center provides year-round comfortable accommodations for groups large and small. We handle all the details so you can focus and retreat from your everyday. We provide all meals, made on-site by our dedicated team and can work with groups to accommodate dietary restrictions and other needs.
Our facilities include:
- Two large lodges nestled in the mountainside
- Marked hiking trails on our expansive 75-acre property, the highlight of our trail system is The Overlook Tower at the top of the ridge bordering on the adjacent George Washington National Forest, offering expansive views as far as the eye can see
- A large open meadow for recreation and activities
- A beautiful spring-fed pond with abundant fish and water creatures – a perfect place for peaceful meditation
- Bonfire ring and picnic benches
- Multiple streams meandering through the grounds
- Outdoor worship in our open-air chapel with wood burning fireplace perched above a natural spring and small waterfall all nestled in the forest
We offer guest rooms that are heated, carpeted and have private bathrooms. Blankets are provided and guests supply their own linens, towels, pillows, and toiletries. Linens can be arranged in advance for an additional charge. The minimum group size is 10 people and the maximum retreat size is 70 people.

Our Main Lodge features a large fireplace area for conversation and relaxing as well as our dining area with meals provided by our staff. There is also a separate room (38 X 18) used for gathering and recreation. There are five guest rooms in the Main Lodge. Four of the rooms have 4 single beds and one room has two single beds and one full-size bed. The total sleeping capacity of the Main Lodge is 20. WiFi provides high-speed internet access.
The North Lodge offers a larger meeting room (28 X 24) and ten guest rooms. Each room has one set of 3 single beds and one full-size bed. Total sleeping capacity is 50 people. WiFi provides high-speed internet access.
We are located on almost 75 acres in the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia, bordering the 60,000 acre George Washington National Forest. Lost River Retreat Center is a two-hour drive from Washington, DC. The nearby Trout Pond National Recreation Area and the Lost River State Park also offer additional hiking, swimming, and horseback riding. Within a short drive are numerous trailheads for expansive mountain hikes including the Great North Mountain Trail System & Wolf Gap Recreation Area which leads to the rocky outcropping of the Big Schloss.
